In this interview, we speak with Vera Gupta, Co-founder of VEDIC LAB, who shares the personal journey that inspired the brand, its core values, unique product innovations, and the commitment to sustainability that permeates every aspect of the business. Can you tell us a bit about the founding of VEDIC LAB? What inspired you to venture into the production of natural cosmetics?

A personal journey led us to create VEDIC LAB. I was going through an intensely stressful period in my life, which showed on my skin, hair, and overall well-being. My husband, Shivi, introduced me to Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medical system renowned for counteracting the effects of stress. Initially, I was skeptical, but after six months of experimenting with Ayurvedic DIY treatments in our kitchen, I began to see real improvements. I also recognized that stress affects women disproportionately; studies show women experience 50% more stress than men. Knowing that many people, especially women, seek natural solutions that genuinely work, this experience inspired us to launch VEDIC LAB, blending Ayurveda with Swiss clinical science to deliver visible results within just one month.

What are the core values and philosophy of VEDIC LAB? How do they influence the development of your products?

The core values and philosophy of VEDIC LAB center on blending 5,000 years of Ayurvedic wisdom with modern Swiss science to create natural, effective solutions that deliver visible results. Our formulas are patent-filed and clinically proven, meaning each product is carefully crafted and undergoes rigorous testing to ensure efficacy. 

This philosophy of merging nature with science extends beyond skincare or supplements. VEDIC LAB focuses on holistic wellness, addressing both internal and external aspects of health. Since skin and hair are integral parts of the body, nurturing them from the outside in and the inside out is essential. To support this approach, all our products come with a complimentary subscription to our award-winning wellness app, providing additional tools for stress reduction and overall well-being.

What are your most popular products, and what are their main features?

Our most popular product is our Scalp Elixir. Hair loss is an often underserved category, especially for women, many of whom struggle to find effective, gentle solutions. Most products on the market are designed for men or contain harsh ingredients like Minoxidil, which isn’t pregnancy-safe and can have multiple side effects.

Driven by the need for a natural yet powerful alternative, we created our 99% natural Scalp Elixir. Free from Minoxidil, it features potent Ayurvedic herbs like Self Heal, Bakuchiol, Brahmi, and more. This gentle formulation can be used daily without needing to rinse, making it easy to incorporate into any routine. Independent clinical studies reveal impressive results: up to 83% reduction in hair loss within one month and a 100% reduction in dandruff and itchiness. Our Scalp Elixir has also received numerous awards, a testament to its effectiveness and innovation in hair and scalp care.

This combination allows us to create natural cosmetic solutions that are not only safe and gentle but also clinically proven to work effectively. 

Additionally, all our products are formulated with vitamin-rich almond milk instead of water. Unlike most skincare products, which are typically 60-80% water, our almond milk base provides extra nourishment.

Can you tell us more about your production process? How do you ensure that all your products are completely natural and eco-friendly?

Our production process is rooted in a deep commitment to sustainability and quality. We carefully source each ingredient from trusted suppliers to ensure both purity and effectiveness. Hence, our skincare and scalp care products are 95% to 99% natural and our supplement is 100% natural. Our products are created in a pharma-grade facility, which allows us to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and environmental responsibility throughout the production process.

When it comes to packaging, we prioritize eco-friendly materials, choosing premium glass and real wood. We use plastic only when necessary, and as a result, our packaging is 95% plastic-free. This approach reflects our dedication to reducing our environmental footprint while still delivering a premium product experience. Sustainability is at the core of our brand, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve and refine our practices.

What are the key ingredients in your natural cosmetic products? How do you select and ensure the quality of these ingredients?

All of our ingredients come from personally vetted suppliers to ensure they meet the highest quality and purity standards. We carefully select powerful Ayurvedic ingredients such as our key ingredients in our Sleep Recovery Line which are Bakuchiol, Brahmi and Tea tree extract and use advanced extraction methods to preserve their potency, ensuring each product meets the highest standards for quality and results.

How do your customers respond to your products? Have there been any specific feedback that shaped your product offerings?

Customer response to our products has been incredibly positive. Although we’ve only been on the market for a few months, we’re already seeing strong repeat purchases, which tells us that our products are truly resonating and delivering results. We actively listen to customer feedback to refine and enhance our offerings, including improvements to packaging and the development of new product lines.

Which market are you primarily focused on, and how do you plan to expand your global presence?

We are currently focusing our marketing efforts primarily on our home base in Switzerland and Germany, though we do ship globally. While we plan to expand internationally in the future, our current focus remains local.

What are your methods for educating customers about the benefits of natural cosmetics and your products?

We are very close to our community and customers. Being an approachable brand is crucial to us. Currently, we host weekly Instagram Live events on various topics related to skin and hair, where our community can join and ask questions. Additionally, we also have our website, social media and our VEDIC LAB Science of Wellness App with a lot of information. 

What are your main goals for the future? Are you considering launching new product lines or technologies?

Our goal is to launch new lines specifically targeting the impacts of stress. Wherever stress affects you, we aim to provide a solution. We’re particularly interested in supporting women through key life stages, such as menopause, when stress can have a significant impact.

Are there any challenges you face in the production of natural cosmetics? If so, how do you overcome them?

One of our main challenges is sourcing raw materials that are both high-quality and potent. While we strive to keep our products as natural as possible, our ultimate goal is to create breakthrough products that make a genuine difference in women’s lives. For supplements, in particular, finding the right active ingredients that are effective and meet the highest EU quality standards has been challenging. However, we do not compromise on quality and kept searching and testing. Hence, this is why our supplement took the longest time to develop.

How does VEDIC LAB contribute to sustainability and environmental awareness? Do you have any specific initiatives or projects promoting social responsibility?

At VEDIC LAB, we’re committed to sustainability and social responsibility in every aspect of our brand. We prioritize eco-positive packaging, using less than 5% plastic, and minimizing waste with thoughtfully designed shipping materials.
